One move manager. Fully managed, door to door.

Moving internationally means trusting someone with every item you own, navigating customs paperwork you’ve never seen before, and coordinating a process that spans weeks or months across multiple countries.

Most international moving companies respond to that complexity by dividing it between departments. You speak to a sales person, then a packing team, then a shipping coordinator, then a delivery agent. Information gets lost between them. Questions go unanswered. You end up chasing your own move.

Gerson Moving Services works differently. One dedicated move manager handles your entire move from the UK side, survey, packing, shipping, and customs documentation. When your goods arrive at destination, a vetted local partner takes over delivery, briefed in full by your move manager and chosen for their local knowledge and time zone. You have one name and one number for everything up to that point, and your move manager stays available throughout.

What our international moving service includes

Every Gerson Moving Services international move is fully managed and door-to-door. That means your entire relocation is handled by a dedicated move manager, from initial survey and packing through to shipping, customs clearance, and final delivery. You won’t need to coordinate multiple providers or manage the process yourself; we take care of every stage to ensure a smooth, efficient move from start to finish.

Pre-move survey and planning

Your move manager visits your home (or conducts a video survey) to assess your shipment, advise on what to take and what to leave, and build a detailed move plan. Nothing is estimated blind.

Export-grade packing

Our trained packing teams use materials and techniques designed specifically for international transit, not domestic moves repurposed for overseas shipping. Fragile items, artwork, antiques, and large furniture are handled as a matter of course.

Shipping, sea, air, or road

We move goods by sea freight, air freight, and international road transport, depending on your destination, timeline, and budget. Your move manager will explain the options honestly and help you choose, including groupage (shared container) if you’re moving a partial load and want to reduce cost.

Customs documentation and clearance

Every international move involves customs. Your move manager prepares the paperwork, advises on what’s restricted or dutiable, and coordinates clearance at the destination, so you’re not left navigating it alone on arrival day.

Delivery and placement

We deliver to your new address, bring items into the rooms you specify, and reassemble furniture where needed. If you need temporary storage at origin or destination, we arrange that too.

GMS Xtra, beyond the boxes

Moving internationally is more than shipping your belongings. Through GMS Xtra, your move manager can also arrange: home search support, school search and placement, pet relocation, visa assistance, area orientation, language training, and temporary accommodation. Most people don’t know they need these until they do.

Why the move manager model matters

Here is what typically happens when your international move has multiple handlers.

The surveyor records your items. The packing team arrives and finds something the surveyor didn’t note, maybe a piano, or a collection that needs specialist crating. They adapt, but nobody updates the shipping manifest. The freight team loads to the original spec. At customs, the discrepancy causes a hold. Three weeks later, you’re chasing resolution from a country you no longer live in, and nobody at the moving company has the full picture because three different teams touched your move.

This is not an edge case. It is one of the most common points of failure in international removals.

Your Gerson Moving Services move manager knows your move in full, what you’re shipping, how it’s packed, what the paperwork says, and what the destination partner has been told. When something changes (and something always changes), there’s one person on the UK side who knows, one person who acts, and one person you can call. At destination, your local delivery partner has been fully briefed, they’re not starting from scratch when your container arrives.

Shipping containers on train

International Shipping methods explained

Sea freight, full container load (FCL)

Best for: large family homes, full household contents.

A 20ft container fits approximately a 2–3 bedroom home. A 40ft container fits a larger property. Your goods are loaded, sealed, and shipped directly, no other customer’s items in your container.

Sea freight, groupage (LCL)

Best for: smaller moves, 1–2 bedroom homes, partial contents.

Your goods share container space with other customers’ shipments heading to the same destination. More economical than FCL; slightly longer transit due to consolidation and deconsolidation at either end.

Air freight

Best for: urgent shipments, essential items, small volumes.

Significantly faster than sea (days vs. weeks) and significantly more expensive per cubic metre. Best used for the items you can’t wait months for, documents, equipment, essentials for the first weeks in your new home.

International road freight

Best for: European destinations.

For moves within Europe, road transport is often the fastest and most practical option. We operate regular services to most European countries.

Your move manager will give you a clear comparison of timelines and costs for each option relevant to your destination, not a generic brochure.

Accreditations and standards

BAR, British Association of Removers

Gerson Moving Services is a full member of BAR, the UK’s leading trade association for the removals industry. BAR membership means your money is protected through the Advance Payment Guarantee scheme, and you have access to a free, independent ombudsman if anything goes wrong.

IAM, International Association of Movers

IAM membership is how we ensure the local partner handling your destination delivery meets the same standard as Gerson Moving Services. When your belongings arrive in Singapore, Sydney, or Buenos Aires, the partner taking over has been assessed against IAM’s global quality criteria, not chosen at random. Your move manager selects and briefs them directly.

These accreditations are not background detail. They are the difference between money being protected and money being at risk if your mover fails to deliver.

Trusted Global Moving Services –
Why Choose Us?

Real feedback from people who chose our international moving company.

Move from the UK to Spain

Rated 5 out of 5

“We moved from Surrey to the Algarve last September and honestly didn’t know what to expect from the process. Our move manager, from the first call through to the day our furniture arrived in Portugal, was the same person. She knew every detail without us having to repeat ourselves. When there was a delay at customs, she called us before we even had a chance to worry. I can’t imagine doing it any other way.”

Relocation to Singapore

Rated 5 out of 5

“We were relocating from Edinburgh to Singapore for my husband’s work and had an eight-week window to make it happen. The survey was thorough; they even flagged items we didn’t realise would be restricted. Everything arrived intact and cleared customs without a single issue. The local partner on the Singapore side had clearly been fully briefed. It felt coordinated, not handed off.”

Excellent service

Rated 5 out of 5

“After 22 years in London, moving to Melbourne was the biggest thing we’d ever done. We had a lot: three kids, a dog, two decades of furniture. Our move manager walked us through every stage, was honest about what the timelines would look like, and never made us feel like we were being difficult. When our container arrived six weeks later, everything was exactly as packed. We’d use them again without hesitation.”

International Removal Services – FAQs

International household removal services involve a pre-move survey to determine what you will be moving and to discuss the details of your move, professionally packing, transporting, and delivering personal belongings when individuals or families move to another country. Gerson Moving Services specialises exclusively in overseas household relocations, offering full door-to-door support.

Yes. Gerson Moving Services focuses on international moves for individuals, couples, and families. Each relocation is managed by a dedicated Move Manager to ensure a smooth and well-organised move abroad.

The duration of an international move depends on your destination and transport method. Sea freight typically takes several weeks, while air freight is faster. Your Move Manager will provide a clear timeline for your relocation.

Yes. We guide you through all required customs paperwork and destination-specific regulations to help avoid delays and ensure a smooth clearance process.

Absolutely. Our team uses export-grade packing techniques to protect furniture, fragile items, and personal belongings throughout your international relocation.

Groupage means your goods share a container with other customers’ shipments travelling to the same destination. It is more economical than booking a full container and suitable for moves of up to around 350 cubic feet (roughly a 1–2 bedroom home). Your move manager will advise whether groupage or FCL makes more sense for your volume.

GMS Xtra is our suite of destination services, home search, school search, pet relocation, visa assistance, area orientation, and more. These are coordinated by your move manager alongside your physical move, so nothing is handled by a separate team that doesn’t know your situation.
