If you’ve searched for a “cheap” removal to Egypt, here’s the honest answer: there isn’t really a cheap or expensive route in isolation – there’s a duty-free route and a full-duty route, and which one applies to you depends almost entirely on your work visa status. That single fact affects your cost far more than the volume of what you’re shipping, and it’s worth understanding before you get a quote, not after.
Your dedicated move manager checks this with you at the very first conversation, so the number you’re quoted is one you can actually plan around.
Egypt’s customs process is document-heavy and depends on getting your visa status verified and documented correctly from the outset. Your move manager confirms this early, prepares the paperwork Egyptian customs will actually accept, and stays your one continuous point of contact from the first survey through to delivery – coordinated with an in-country partner who manages the practical realities of clearance in Egypt.
To qualify for household goods import, your belongings need to have been your personal property and in use for at least 12 months before you leave for Egypt – this isn’t a formality Egyptian customs skips. You’ll also need a newly dated entry stamp, no more than 6 months old, at the point your shipment clears.
Customs clearance typically takes 7–10 business days once full paperwork is in place, and Egyptian customs do not accept handwritten inventories – every item needs to be typed and itemised. Your move manager and in-country partner prepare this in the format Egyptian customs expects, so this isn’t something you’re doing yourself.
Generally permitted: used household goods, furniture, clothing, and personal effects that were genuinely yours and in use for 12+ months before departure, listed on a typed, itemised inventory.
Restricted – subject to additional duty or requirements: goods that don’t meet the 12-month prior-ownership test, and certain electronics or items in commercial-looking quantities.
Prohibited: items restricted under Egyptian import law generally. Every shipment is subject to 100% physical inspection by Egyptian customs authorities – this is standard procedure, not a sign anything is wrong, and an accurate typed inventory is what keeps this process moving.
