Top of the list and the happiest country to move to in 2022 is Finland! For the fifth year running it has come first on the World Happiness Report as the happiest country in the world, but it’s not just happiness that makes Finland the ideal place to live. There is a strong economy, excellent infrastructure, a transparent legal system and a high standard of living. The low crime rates in Finland also make it an ideal place to raise a family. The average annual salary before deductions is around 43,440 Euros and unemployment is under 8%. Whilst the high standard of living comes at an expensive cost, there are really good benefits such as free universal health care and education alongside a flat working model and agile working policy in most businesses. Workers are generally a lot happier, as they are allowed to work when they want with less of a hierarchy in place between management and everyday workers.

It’s clear to see why Denmark ranks so highly as one of the best countries to live in 2022. Danish lifestyles involve culture, education and social programs. The average salary is 541,659 DKK, which is roughly £62,277. The cost of living and taxes are high but this is supported by high wages. Free education and healthcare for all are a benefit of these high taxes. Health and fitness are important and are supported by beautiful outdoor areas which are great for a variety of sports and activities. Infrastructure is extensive and vast with roads and bicycle lanes that are well maintained and cleaned, along with an excellent and reliable public transport system that makes it easy for people to get around in a variety of different ways. A flat management structure like that of Finland makes for better working conditions and equals a good balance between life and work.

Australia has always been a popular place to emigrate to and is high on our best places to live in the 2022 list. Known as one of the safest and happiest countries to live in with hot summers and mild winters, Australia is many people’s dream destination. If you’re a student or working professional Australia has many opportunities to discover. The average salary is AUS$90,000(+) a year, private and public health care is to a high standard, and the country enjoys an exceptional education system. The government places a high premium on skills and enforces stringent measures to keep immigration levels under control.

Ireland is a fantastic option for those who are looking to relocate abroad but don’t want to move too far from the UK. It is a small and beautiful country with a rich culture and lush, green scenery. The housing market is varied, with a variety of options for all different types of budgets. Whilst homes in cities such as Dublin can come with a hefty price tag, there are much more affordable options if you’re willing to move further out. As the closest European country to the US, Ireland is a fantastic base for exploring the world, making it a great place to set up home if you’re fascinated by travel. Firm gun rules in Ireland mean that unless you live on a farm, it’s illegal to own one. The result of these rules is virtually nonexistent gun violence and actually, a low overall crime rate.

Canada is popular with expats from all over the world. Renowned for being progressive, diverse and well-developed with an abundance of outdoor space and natural resources. There are many positions available in sectors such as energy, finance, real estate and communications with the average salary coming to around CAD$53,625. Canada also has a relatively reasonable cost of living but has high taxes. There is universal healthcare that comes from these taxes and healthcare is of a high standard, education is also free at public schools. Most find that once they move to Canada their quality of life improves.

Whilst the United Arab Emirates (UAE) doesn’t come up on this list, there is no reason why it shouldn’t be one of the top 20 places for you to live in 2022. The average salary is 301,661 AED, which works out to be around £60803.21 and there is no income tax to be paid, a prospect which is hugely attractive to expats looking to move to a new country to better their lifestyle. There are outstanding residential areas for expats and opportunities are plentiful. The pace of life is slower compared to its western counterparts, however, Dubai is a cosmopolitan metropolis full of malls, hotels and 5* restaurants. The majority of the UAE population are expats, as skilled and highly qualified workers are in need, many of which are funded by more than generous expat packages. The cost of living is steep with education and accommodation being a big cost for many, however, other expenses such as petrol and groceries are reasonable. It is also still a conservative nation so expats need to adjust to the rules of the Kingdom. Health Insurance is needed as healthcare is expensive.
